“AU REVOIR”
FAREWELL AT OPARAU. A social evening and presentation was tendered to Private T. Newton in the Oparau Hall on Thursday evening. For the first half of the evening the gathering formed itself into groups for five hundred, crib and euchre, the remainder of the evening being given over to dancing. An excellent supper was provided by the ladies of the district, after which the guest of the evening was presented with a cheque from the people of Oparau and Kawhia and a fountain pen from the local school children.
The presentation was made by Mr N. Beatson, who in a short speech, wished the guest of the evening the best of luck and a speedy return. Music was supplied by Messrs J. and F. Wynyard and Mr W. Smith made an efficient M.C.
The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought a very pleasant evening to a close.
