RE-ELECTED

TE AWAMUTU POWER BOARD CHAIRMANSHIP. MR JOHNSON’S LONG RECORD. The annual meeting of the Te Awamutu Power Board was held on Friday last, when there were present: Messrs J. T. Johnson, J. G. Sutherland, A. L. Storey, R. J. Graham, Ralph Armstrong, V. A. de Coek, S. C. B. Macky, N. M. Lethbridge and Colonel J. Matson. The secretary- manager (Mr D McArthur) occupied the chair at the outset and called for nominations for the position of chairman for the en suing period of twelve months. Mr Sutherland said it gave him great pleasure to again nominate Mr Johnson as chairman, a position he had held for 22 years, during which time the Board had been very fortunate indeed to have at its head a man of such sound views and absolute justice to all.

Mr Macky seconded the motion, paying a tribute to the fair manner in which Mr Johnson had carried out the duties of chairman. There had been differences of "opinion, but no squabbles. The Secretary-Manager then put the motion and declared it carried and congratulated Mr Johnson on behalf of the staff on being re-elected for the twenty-second successive term.

On the motion of Mr Sutherland, seconded by Mr Lethbridge, the chairman’s honorarium was fixed at £132 per annum as heretofore.

Mr Johnson, in taking the chair, expressed his thanks and gratification at being re-elected chairman for the ensuing period. Over a period of years, he had enjoyed the office of chairman, chiefly because he had been a member of the provisional committee and seen electricity extend all over the district. He had been connected with the Board from the start and had witnessed its wonderful growth. He thanked the mover and seconder for their kind remarks, which he knew all members endorsed. There had been no squabbles during the history of the Board, although naturally there had been differences of opinion. On two occasions only had he been required to exercise his casting vote. Over a period of years there had been strong opinions held, but they all recognised that the other fellow was entitled to his as none were infallible. In conclusion, he thanked one and all for the compliment paid by re-electing him.

On the motion of the chairman, Mr J. G. Sutherland was re-elected deputychairman and appointed to deal with the financial statements and sign accounts.
