A plea to the Government to make a decision with reference to the export of perishable produce this year was made by Mr W. W. Mulholland. Dominion president, at the Farmers' Union conference at Auckland yesterday. “The most important point,” he said, “is what is the Government policy regarding the payment for produce next year? That decision could be made now.” Mr Mulholland said it should be realised that it was impossible to maintain productive capacity unless the income of farmers was sufficient. Hence production depended on financial policy. In such a crisis prompt decision would never be made by a party Government which needed to consider the effect of . its decisions on party members.
