GIFT EVENING

HAIRINI FUNCTION. A very enjoyable social and dance was held in the Hairini Hall on Saturday evening last when a gift evening was tendered to Miss Jean Fraser, of Hairini. Dancing to the music of Mrs E. Holmes’ Orchestra occupied the greater part of the evening, and in an interval soprano solos rendered by Miss Olive Spencer, “The Blackbird in My Garden” and “Fairy Pipers,” were much appreciated. Her accompanist, Mrs T. W. Dibble, also played an extra waltz. After a sumptuous supper, which was provided by the ladies of the district, the opening of the many and varied gifts by Miss Fraser took place. Mr A. B. White referred to the splendid way Miss Fraser had entered into the social and patriotic activities of the district, and in asking her to accept the gifts, he said he hoped she would find them both useful and ornamental. Mr D. Pyper, on behalf of Miss Fraser, suitably responded. Dancing continued until midnight, when the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” concluded a very pleasant evening.
