Mrs H. A. Pegg, Roto-o-rangi, is holidaying at Maraitai Beach.

Mr J. L. McDonald is gazetted as deputy-registrar of births and deaths of Maoris at Kawhia. Amongst the list of wounded .is Private George Henry Robinson, whose next of kin is given as Mrs G. Gordon, of Te Anga. Advice has been received in Te Kuiti that Lieutenant E. Tong has been promoted to the rank of captain. His wife, Mrs Tong, has also just received a cable assuring her that he •is safe and well. Another casualty is Corporal Allan Francis Lawrence, brother of Mrs W. McOnie, of Te Kuiti. He has been wounded and word has been received that he is likely to be invalided home. Advice has been received in Te Awamutu of the death in Wellington, of Mr Archibald Coulter, who for 25 to 30 years successfully farmed in Hairini, removing to the Empire City about two years ago on account of illhealth. He is survived by his wife and two children. While at Hairini he was a staunch supporter of the Pres byterian Church and enjoyed the widespread respect and esteem of the whole community. TE RAU-A-MOA PERSONAL NOTES. On Wednesday last a five-hundred evening, in connection with the Oparau baby carnival, to raise funds for the National Party, was held at “Greenhills”, the residence of Mr. and Mrs E. Easy. There was a good attendance of the local settlers and a most enjoyable evening was spent. The prize-winners were, ladies, Mrs M. Anderson, gentlemen, Mr R. Dickson. After supper a collection, taken for the “Anderson” baby (daughter of Mr and Mrs Millar Anderson, of “Glen Tui”) proved highly satisfactory. Mr and Mrs E. M. Collie, who have been on a short visit to Auckland, have now returned home. Mr C. Sehwartfeger, who has been on his annual duck-shooting expedition to Port Waikato, has now returned home. He reports that sport was not as good as usual, owing to the prolonged dry spell.
