HIGH SCHOOL

DISTRICT ANNUAL MEETINGS. COMMITTEE REPRESENTATIVES APPOINTED. District meetings within the school districts concerned in consolidation on the Te Awamutu Intermediate School were held on Monday evening to receive the reports of district representatives on the committee, appoint representatives for the ensuing year to generally afford the people of the districts an opportunity to review the past and make representations for the future.

In some localities the meetings were so poorly attended that the few present could only regard it as evidence of satisfaction by the parents in the conditions of the past. In some cases, formal meetings were not held.

By way of exception, however, one of the largest meetings ever held in Mangapiko took place, no less than 64 persons being present. It was, however, an occasion for two following meetings—one on school affairs and the other on E.P.S. organisation.

Mr R. Callis presided at the school meeting and the report and activities were reviewed in detail. Only one recommendation was made to the incoming committee, that the running of the school bus service be reversed on one trip so that the children first picked up in the morning would be first delivered to their homes in the afternoon. Generally, the parents expressed satisfaction with the educational arrangements.

Mr L. C. Day was reappointed district representative on the committee unopposed.

At Te Rahu there was a rather disappointing attendance. The past year was generally reviewed and many aspects discussed. General satisfaction was expressed both with the transport arrangements and the schooling. No complaint of any sort was raised.

Mr J. A- Johnson was re-elected to represent the district on the committee.

Mr A. B. White presided over a good attendance at Hairini. The report was received with interest and general satisfaction expressed. Mr G. S. Hull was re-elected to the committee from this district.

A small but representative meeting of parents was held at Waikeria. Mr S. West read the annual report, balance sheet, and the headmaster’s report, elaborating on one or two items.

Mr R. Harvey moved “That Mr West be the Waikeria representative on the High School Committee.” No further nominations being received, Mr West was declared elected.

Mr West suitably thanked the meeting for the continued confidence in him.

After a discussion on the bus route, the meeting closed.
