SOCIAL FUNCTIONS

A WELCOME HOME. TO MR AND MRS WOODD. Friends of Mr and Mrs F. E. Woodd, of Frontier Road, had planned to accord them an old-fashioned “tin kettling” on their return from their honeymoon, but plans were altered somewhat at short notice, and Mr and Mrs Woodd were host and hostess at a merry little party in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Saturday evening, when dancing was indulged in to excellent music contributed by Mr Jack Dalton, with Mr Allan Johnson as master of ceremonies. Mrs H. Steer contributed two very acceptable vocal numbers, “Maid of the Mountains” and “To a Miniature,” and Miss Beryl Dann, of Hamilton, entertained with an exhibition of gymnastic exercises that showed her to be a very talented young lady indeed. Community singing was popular, and all the old favourites — and some new ones —were sung with enthusiasm. After supper Mr H. Steer, in a happy little speech, expressed to Mr and Mrs Woodd, the hearty good wishes of all present for a long and happy married life, with plenty of loyal friends always at hand.
