CHILDREN’S ANNIVERSARY. The children’s anniversary which was conducted by Colonel Carmichael on Sunday, was a very happy eventA special platform had been erected in the Oddfellows’ Hall, and the tasteful decorations neatly framed the living picture of the children. In each of the three meetings there were part songs which were rendered by a various singing company of 20 to 30 voices, also solos, recitations, a mouth-organ solo, trios, action songs, and a quintette gave a real pleasure to parents and friends present. At the afternoon meeting picture books were presented to 20 wee members of the Cradle Roll department. The concert held on Monday evening was a grand finale. It was presided over by Mr C. Lopdell, from Hamilton. The programme is to be repeated in the Kihikihi Town Hall next Tuesday evening. Among other items of interest were recitations by H. Maxwell, Ron Smith and Betty Harris; character songs rendered by Tiny Tots, and the well known songs: “I Don’t Want to Play in Your Yard” and “Let’s Grow Old Together,” were sung by Molly Parkinson and Margaret Maxwell, and Herbert and Margaret Maxwell. The pyramids exhibition given by the gymnasium class were appreciated also the playette “Great Shakes” by Betty Gray, Margaret Baird and Margaret Maxwell. ■ The concluding item for the evening was the cantata “Captain Soot and the Fairies,” presented by the Sunday School. During the interval Captain Lamond made a short statement of the year’s work of the young people, and paid a tribute to Lieut. Gray, who had assisted in the training of the children.

The programme was well received

and at the conclusion prizes were distributed to the children for their year’s Sunday school work. The highest marks being gained by Wesley Carrington for the boys, with Mervyn Smith second. Edna Dalzeill was highest for the girls. Gordon Smith and Margaret Maxwell were the runners up.

The Army Sunday School does not close during the Christmas holidays and any child is invited to attend the happy meetings every Sunday, at 10.15 a.m. and 2 p.m.; also the Gymnasium class Wednesday evenings 6.15 to 7.30 p.m.
