It was announced in Hamilton on Saturday morning that owing to the fact that all arrangements for speakers have been concluded and that there is only a limited time available, it has not been found possible tc< vide for the official representative of the Farmers’ Union to speak at the mass meeting at Claudelands this afternoon. In accordance, therefore, wtth a resolution passed at the monthly meeting of the Waikato subprovincial executive of the union on Friday, the union will .not be represented officially at the meeting, although the attendance of its members as individual farmers will in no way be affected.

An apparent threat to Hamilton retailers that if they close their shops this afternoon their businesses will be boycotted was delivered in the form of printed notices, which were to he seen pasted on the display windows of about half the shops in Hamilton’s main street yesterday. The notices, which were cyclo styled on cheap paper- about the size of foolscap, read: “Warning, Close Monday, Close for good.” It is understood that the notices were pasted on the windows some time between midnight on Saturday night and five o’clock next morning, but it is not known iwhat persons or organisations were responsible.
