TROOPS ENTERTAINED

’ BY KIHIKIHI RESIDENTS. MUCH APPRECIATED MORNING TEA. On Sunday morning a section of the Divisional Cavalry passed through Kihikihi en route to the "Waiouru training ground, southern King Country. The party was under the command of Lieutentant Colonel C. J. Pierce, Ohaupo, and consisted of 52 officers, N. and men. A short halt was made at Kihikihi, whan the troops were entertained to morning tea by the residents. Before moving off Lieutenant Colonel Pierce thanked. th!e Kihikihi people for their hospitality, particularly Mrs- Mclndoe, for organising >the function which was greatly appreciated, particularly so when one remembers that not one of the party came from the Kihikihi district. With the exception of himself (all were total strangers to Kihikihi. He called for three cheers for the good folks of Kihikihi. On behalf of the residents, Mr C. O. Edmonds, president of the Te Alwamutu R.S.A., briefly acknowledged the remarks of Lt. Col. Pierce •and} wished the troops many happy landings, and l recited some of the social exploits of the old N.Z.E.F. He hoped that the 2nd N.Z.E.F. would not let their older brothers down in this respect, and would be able to think up some good tales with which to regale thle folks of the countries they may visit. He was not afraid that the military exploits; of this Force would be below the standard of the original N.Z.EJF. Qn the call of Mr Edmonds three cheers were given for th,e troops, and very shortly afterwards the party moved off oceompanied by the good wishes of the assembled public.
