TOWN BOARD AFFAIRS

EXTRAORDINARY VACANCIES. Those qualified to serve as commissioners and who have the urge to come forward and use their efforts to advance the town into its right place among the ports and seaside resorts of New Zealand are called upon to accept nomination to fill two vacancies now existing on the Kawhia Town Board. That there are men so qualified by status and experience and in possession of the requisite civic interest in Kawhia goes without saying; but not too certain is it that these men will accept office, for though interested in the town’s welfare and qualified to administer for it, they may under-rate their ability to effect the improvements and ensure the progress they would wish to effect and ensure. Yet this hesitancy, if analysed, would be found to contain elements which, combined with status, experience and civic interest, are those which constitute the requisite qualifications, no more, and no less. The average burgess of Kawhia realises the need of combined and sustained effort along with care and caution at this stage of Kawhia’s history, having fresh in mind the unenviable position into which the local administrative body has been placed, not by any egregious act of maladministration but by disregard for caution and hesitancy when in the initial stages of the present disorganisation. The immediate future of Kawhia will call for the fostering of the co-operative spirit to the Nth degree and members of the Board must be prepared to give some time tp the calls of office as well as being resident in the immediate town area to respond to those which will probably arise for impromptu conferences in respect to projects, plans and important undertakings. As may be said of all towns, boroughs and cities, the future of Kawhia rests with those into whose hands is entrusted its control.
