MINIATURE AIR BASE

FLYING MACHINES AT KAWHIA. For a brief space on Wednesday morning the spit presented the appearance of an air base in miniature, three machines being at rest there about noon. On landing one of them struck a soft patch but was able to generate sufficient power to lift, with some difficulty, itself out of it and taxi to more solid ground. In the main the landing, under low water conditions, is a good one, but. there are a few bad places necessary to avoid. The most suitable landing is flagged.
