» TE AWAMUTU FINALISTS. WEEK-END TOURNAMENTS. The outstanding performance of the Te Awamutu Golf Club members whe played in tournaments over the King’s Birthday week-end was that of 11. Wallace, who reached the final of the King Country Championship, to be defeated by B. Johnston 3 and 1 J. Sterritt, another local club mem ber was among the eight to qualify for championship play. W. Ryan won the First Flight Match by defeating his club mate, D. Harding in the final. There were nine members from the Te Awamutu Club competing at Taumarunui, Messrs J. Sterritt, R. Wallace, J. Wallace, J. Craik, J. Muir, L Preston, V. de Coek, D. Harding and W. Ryan. Of those not already mentioned as being successful in the tournament, J. Craik and L. Preston were not eliminated from their groups until the finals; and thus not taking into account the performance of Sterritt th"club had the very creditable showing of five finalists in the tournament. Playing at St. Andrew’s Links in the semi-finals of the South Auckland Championship on Monday, H. Babbage of Te Awamutu was beaten by G. L. Taylor, six and five, while in the same tournament in the morning Stableford Bogeys D. G. Christie, of Te Awamutu, was among the eight who returned the best cards with a score of 36.
