JUBILEE DANCE

VERY LARGE ATTENDANCE. A HAPPY EVENING. The dance in the Town Hall last Saturday evening was the culmination of Te Awamutu schools’ jubilee celebrations, and that it was an unqualified success was abundantly evident- The hall was filled with dancers and spectators, many of them comprising former pupils who do not customarily attend dances, but w’ho had come to meet former associates of their younger days. The committee responsible for the dance had thoroughly attended to details, and with bright music the hours passed pleasantly. Mr L. S. Armstrong, chairman of the Primary School Committee; carried out the duties of master of ceremonies, and with him' was an enthusiastic band ,of workers. Strange’s Syncopators provided the music, and their efforts were supplemented with extras, notably by Mr George Dalton, who played dance music for school functions in Te Awamutu over twentyfive years ago and on many occasions since. The programme comprised modem and old-time dances, and everybody entered heartily into the opportunity to enjoy a happy evening. A tasty supper was served, and when the last dance was announced just before midnight there were many expressions of regret that it marked the finale to what had proved an exceedingly successful function.
