Mr Chalmers had his early schooling here, and nowadays is general manager of the Bank of New Zealand, having entered upon his banking career with the local branch of that Bank. An interesting visitor to Te Awamutu next week will be Adjutant Chandler, better known to radio listeners as “Skipper” of 3YA. The Adjutant was recently transferred from Christchurch, where he had the oversight of the Army’s work amongst young people in Canterbury, to a similar position in Auckland. An Australian by birth, the Adjutant’s happy style appeals to all, while his musical ability has been evidenced in the fine harmonic bands he has organised for broadcasting. At the local Chamber of Commerce meeting last evening the president, Mr W. Jeffery, referred to the death earlier in the day, of Mr H. Andrew, an old resident and former member of the Chamber. Mr Jeffery referred to Mr Andrew as a staunch worker for the advancement of Te Awamutu throughout a term of about thirty years, when indifferent health necessitated an easing up of his activities, both in his business and in public services. _ Mr Andrew had some years ago given great help to the Chamber as a member of the council, and his views and opinions were always worth while. To members of his family would be accorded the deepest sympathy. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to his memory. Many Pirongia residents will regret the passing of Mrs T. R. Mounsey, a highly respected resident there for many years, whose death occurred on Tuesday. Mrs Mounsey was born at Nelson, being the daughter of Mr and Mrs Simon Martin, early settlers in that province, and she came to Pirongia district about 20 years ago. A devout and kindly woman, Mrs Mounsey won the hearts of all with whom she came in contact, and there are many to mourn, including a husband and grown-up family of three sons and four daughters. The sons are Messrs Auriel, Leslie and Selwyn Mounsey, and the daughters Mesdames F. Taylor (Hairini), Milgate, A. Park and W. Park, all of Pirongia.
