VALEDICTORY
SOCIAL AT TE RAHU. PRESENTATION TO MR AND MRS C. A. BOWLER. Te Rahu Hall was well filled on Wednesday evening last with settlers of the Paterangi and Te Rahu districts in order to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs C. A. Bowler, two popular young settlers. Dancing was the order of the evening to excellent music provided by Messrs Armour (violin) and D. Fraser (piano accordion). Mr Alan Johnson was a capable master of ceremonies.
During the evening Mr J. A. Johnson spoke of the sterling qualities of Mr and Mrs Bowler and the willing assistance always given to local organisations and sports clubs. On behalf of local residents Mr Johnson asked the guests to accept a beautiful standard lamp and a handsome polished walnut table, with all good wishes, from their many friendsMr T. A. West, president of the Te Rahu Tennis Club, spoke in a few well-chosen words of the wonderful work Mr Bowler had done for the Club during the past eighteen years, in which time he had held every office. The untiring efforts of Mr and Mrs Bowler had done a great deal towards making the courts what they were to-day. In concluding, Mr West asked Mr and Mrs Bowler to accept a beautiful frameless mirror as a token of esteem and an appreciation of their services to the local Tennis Club.
In replying, Mr Bowler thanked the speakers for their kind words and beautiful gifts. He said that although they were severing their connection with the district they would never sever the many friendships they had made there.
The ladies dispensed a tasty supper, and dancing was continued till midnight, when the singing of “Auld Lang Syne ” brought a jolly evening to a close.
