DOMAIN BOARD

ANNUAL MEETING; PURCHASE OF MOTOR MOWER. The annual meeting of Te Awamutu Domain Hoard was held on Monday evening in conjunction with

the meeting of the Borough Council, Mr J. C. Montefiore presiding. Mr R. P. ’Worley (engineer) said he had investigated types and prices of motor mowers available in Auckland. Eighteen-inch models ranged from £4O up, and 36-inch models were £2OB. To a question by Mr A. RoWan, the clerk (Mr D. Bockett) said the credit balance at present was £5B. Mr C. J. Spiers said the Board must give service, and he thought a purchase should be agreed upon. He advocated procuring a 30-inch petrol-

driven mower at £l6B. If no machine was procured the increased fees charged as ground rents should not be imposed. The mower could also be made available for Beautifying Society work. He thought most of the purchase price could be recouped within one year.

Mr Spiers said he had arranged for the iron shed now standing- near Park Road at Albert Park to be drawn across the ground to the town side of the hockey field, and the shed would nor.’ be used by hockey players —Approved.

Mr Spiers moved as a recommendation that the Borough Council purchase a mower, if a demonstration proved satisfactory, and hire it to the Domain Board. Mr A. C. Brookes seconded. Agreed to. Mr Spiers and the engineer were authorised to make the purchase. The clerk presented the annual report and statement of accounts, a copy of which he was required to forward to the Department of Internal Affairs.

Te Awamutu Territorial Association applied for the exclusive use of

the central dressing room at Albert Park, which it was desired to convert into a club room for the use of the local Territorials, and thereby encourage the Territorial movement. It was intended to install lighting and heating facilities. Mr Montefiore spoke in support, and said the shed was at present used as a store-roam for AthleticClub equipment. He thought no hardship would be imposed. The Territorials should be encouraged. Mr Spiers expressed a doubt about the proposal.

To Mr Rowan, the chairman said the footballers would be accommodated in the grandstand rooms. Mr Rowan commented that the Domain Board was charging much higher ground charges and then depriving those who paid those fees of some of the facilities. The ehairman said some of the Athletic Club members and footballers were already, or would be, members of the Territorials.

Mr Spiers suggested getting the views of the Rugby Union on the subject.

It was decided to grant exclusive use’ of the room during the pleasure of tiic Board, and on specified conditions.
