TE AWAMUTU STOCK SALE. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd. Hamilton report as follows on their Te Awamutu sale held on Thursday. Cattle: A good yarding of beef cattle was submitted to auction and a, total clearance was affected at prices on a par with recent sales. Fat cows ex the dairy and boner cattle were yarded in large numbers. Competition was keen throughout and sales were made in every case at the hammer. An extra large entry of dairy cattle was penned but on the whole the quality was only fair and prices ruled accordingly. These were offered through the dairy ring and the majority of the vendors met the market. We quote: —!0x beef £9 to £9 15s; lighter cattle £8 12s to £8 17s; plain sorts £7 to £7 18s; fat cows ex the dairy £4 10s to £5 10s; light fat Jersey heifers £4 5s to £4 7s 6d; heavy boner eows £4 3s to £4 15s; medium boner cows £2 10s to £3 Is; light boners 38s to £2 2s 6d; early 2nd-calvers £8 to £8 15s; young August calvers £7 5s to £7 15s; later calvers £6 to £6 10s; 3-year Jersey in calf heifers £8 to £8 10s; 2-year i.c. Jersey heifers £7 to £7 15s; Jersey cross 3-year i.c. heifers £6 to £7 10s; backward 2-year i.c. Jersey heifers £5 to £5 15s; nondescript sorts £4 to £4 15s.

Sheep: We had a big yarding of sheep for which, competition was keen prices being on a par with recent sales. We quote:—Fat ewes 12s to 15s; fat wethers to £1; store wethers 12s to 15s 6d; fat lambs 14s to 18s 6d; store b.f. lambs 5s 4d to Ss 6d; store b.f. lambs 4s to 8s 9d; aged breeding ewes 8s to 9s 9d; down cross breeding ewes to 9s 9d.

Pigs: Fat pigs came forward in small numbers the entry being principally medium porkers. These met with a good demand values being well up to Frankton rates. The advertised line of pedigree Canadian Berkshire pigs on account of J. C. Montefiore came forward in good condition and attracted a fail' enquiry from buyers. The 20-months boar “Pung® Mara Traveller” was sold to the N. Z. Dairy Company, Te Awamutu, at 14 gns. The sows also met with a satisfactory demand, the sow “Glen Susan Ist’’ being sold to Mr R. A. Martin for 121 gns. “Glen Susan 2nd” was sold for 10 gns. the purchaser being Mr C. D. Storey of Te Awamutu while “Glen Susan 3rd” realised 9 gns. Mr J. Sutton of Te Kawa being the purchaser. Only a small offering of store pigs came forward Competition was very keen and values showed a marked advance on Frankton quotations, a total clearance being effected. An exceptionally large entry of grade sows sold very readily at advanced rates. Quality sows in particular were eagerly sought after. We quote:—Light baconers up to £3 Is; heavy porkers £2 12s to £2 15s; medium £2 to £2 9s; light £1 8s to £1 16s choppers £1 5s to £2 10s; good young Berkshire sows to farrow £4 10s to £5 2s 6d; medium sorts £3 to £4; good Tamworth sows to farrow £3 to £3 17s 6d; others £2 10s to £2 18s; Devon sows to farrow £3 to, £3 17s 6d; good stores 21s to 23s 6d; best weaners 14s 6d to 16s; others 8s to Ils 6d ;
