All the primary schools in the Auckland province* resumed to-day after the May vacation. Under the proposed scheme for the subsidising of workers in prepared by the Minister of Labour, the Hon, P. C. Webb, it is intended that all workers engaged under it shall be apprenticed for 2% years. They are to be paid the wages set out in the scale, and after the expiry of the term the Government subsidy will cease, the worker being expected to be able to earn the award wage. The scheme applied to certain trades only, and the subsidised worker must have had no previous experience as a skilled worker in the industry in which he is to be employed. For a period of six months prior to his engagement as a subsidised worker he must have been employed on scheme 13 or on any public works job, or shall not have been in constant employment in industry, except in any special case authorised by the Minister.
