WAIPA UNION’S SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNEY. SOME INTERESTING CONTESTS. The enterprise of Waipa Rugby Union and its Junior Advisory Board in promoting a seven-a-side tournament on Saturday last was appreciated by players and spectators alike at Albert Park, and, though some of the engagements made for various teams were not kept, the games played were interesting and in some cases exciting. The arrangements were in capable hands, and the referees did their jobs .satisfactorily. Following the final game the shield presented to the Union by Mr I. F. Vicars tor the competition was handed to the Rover junior captain. L. Clarke, by Mr J. T. North, vice-president ot the Union. A tribute to the very thoughtful and practical help Mr Vicars had made to the competition by his presentation was made by Mr North. There was, he thought, no more helpful way of increasing interest in the seven-a-side tournament than by such a trophy, and it had resulted in a fine response by the players, the final game being one of the most keenly contested seven-aside games they had seen. A tribute to the keen play of the teams competing was paid by Mr North, and on behalf of the Union he congratulated the winning team and the runners-up on their excellent showing. Calls for three cheers for Mr Vicars, the Rovers’ team, and the runners-up were heartily responded to. Results:— SENIOR B.
