OTOROHANGA NEWS
MILD WINTER CONDITIONS. (Our Resident Representative.) So far c-arly winter conditions in the Northern King Country have been exceedingly mild in comparison with May conditions of former years. A considerable amount of rain has fallen during the past week, but there has been an absence of winter conditions, and the pasture growth is still in evidence. Settlers have not yet comenced to rug their cattle as has been the practice each May in former periods. During May of 1937 there were eight frosts recorded here, while in 1936 there were 14. Last month, only five very slight frosts were recorded. YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUB. At an interval, after supper, at the first annual ball of the Otorohang’a branch of the Young Farmers’ Club. Mr Montgomery, representative of the Department of Agriculture, presented the Miln Cup won at the* recent Otorohanga A. and P. Show, by the Te Anga Club. Mr Montgomery referred to the progressive work of the Clubs,' and thanked all present for the interest they were taking in the activities of the young people. The takings at the Ball (previously recorded), after all expenses are paid, will place the Otorohanga Club in a healthy financial position. The Monte Carlo contest was an nexed by Miss Jean Cameron and Mr Charles Bluck. BUILDING ACTIVITY. Bui’ding activity in Otorohanga continues. Among new buildings to be erected forthwith are the neiw Post Office and large store and warehouse for the Farmers’ Trading Co.. Ltd. The contract price for the latter building is £6OOO.
