RENEWING A HOTEL

POSITION AT KIHIKIHI. When the application for a renewal of the license of the Alpha Hotel at Kihikihi came before the annual meeting of the Waitomo Licensing Committee in Te Awamutu on Wednesday afternoon, the clerk stated that the police reports in respect to all hotels under the Committee’s jurisdiction were favourable, except that it was considered that the Alpha Hotel at Kihikihi, part of which was over sixty years old, was inadequate, and it was suggested that the owners should seriously consider replacing the building with a modern structure. It was added that it was difficult to know what to recommend otherwise. The Committee contented itself with the observation that the licensee should so conduct the place that there would be no necessity for action. Mr S. S. Preston, who appeared for the owners, told the Committee that the building was at present in a good state of repair, and further improvement would be put in hand as soon as the new licensee, Mr Reginald G. Hodges, had been able to ascertain v..e requirements.
