GREAT DISPERSAL SALES. TE AWAMUTU DISTRICT BUYERS ACTIVE. ’ “Jersey Week” was held in Tara- ' naki last week, and the auctions attracted a large bench of buyers on each day of the sales, which commen- • ced on Monday and concluded on Fri- ' day. “The sales,” one Taranaki journal proudly proclaimed, “demonstrated clearly not only that there is still a demand for Jerseys of quality, but also that Taranaki is recognised as » being able to supply that demand. 1 Taranaki Jersey week clearly holds pride of place as the pre-em;inent feature of the year in Dominion Jersey circle’s.” The buyers present included a large number from the Northern King Country and the Waikato, and as a result a number of sales of local interest were transacted. Prior to the opening Mr. Truby King, managing director of Newton King Ltd., welcomed those present, remarking that never before had there been such a gathering representative of the Dominion at Jersey week. During the sale of stock from Mr G. H. Bell’s property at Pinewoods, Oakura, 78 head changed hands, for an average of just over 42-J-gns. This is the best average secured for years at a Jersey sale in Taranaki. PINEWOOD’S OFFERINGS. Mr Colin McDonald, of Korakonui, purchased the following: Females. Heifer, Pinewoods Standard Chain, by Brampton Standard Compte— Moorpark Gold Chain, born September, 1936, 20gns. WOODLANDS’ OFFERINGS. At the Woodlands stud dispersal the rising three year old stud bull, Wood lands Gold Shot, champion at the last New Zealand show, changed hands at 240gns, the purchasers being Messrs Porter and Field, Kumeu, North Auckland. This young bull, which was bred by Mr H. C. Sampson at Woodlands, is by the imported Vagabond of Oaklands out of the V.H.C. cow Woodlands Salvia. Bidding started at 50 guineas and went spiritedly in 10 guinea bids to 240 guineas, at which price it was knocked down, the announcement of the purchaser being greeted with applause. The average price over the sale of 34 cows, 11 in-calf heifers, eight yearling heifers and nine bulls, was 30 gns. FERN DELL DISPERSAL. At the Fern Dell dispersal, there was again a good demand for anything showing quality, the top price of 85 guineas being realised by the 11 year old V.H.C. cow Oxford Lily Grey by Fern’s Oxford Glory—Cid's Golden Lass, which was purchased by W. J. Freeth, Pukearuhe. Her progeny also commanded top price for rising three year olds and yearling bulls, Fern Dell Master Vagabond, the rising three year old by the imported Vagabond of Oaklands, realising 50gns, tlie purchaser being H. G. Lever, Tauranga, while the yearling Fern Dell Timothy by Fern Dell Golden Peer realised 36gns. At this sale Mr McDonald was also a purchaser, securing the cow, Fern Dell Valmai, by Fern Dell Noble Volunteer—Fern Dell Glory, born October, 1933, for 18gns. Mr F. H. Terry, of Korakonui, paid 35gns for the bull Fern Dell Golden Peer, by Vagabond of Oaklands (imp.)—Fern Dell Beauty, born February, 1935. BRIDGE VIEW OFFERINGS. At the Bridge View sale, top price of 72gns was realised by the rising | two year old bull Ash vale Dreaming : Sam, submitted on behalf of Mr Hooper. This bull, which has three strains of the Brampton Dreaming Sam blood, evoked keen competition before being secured by Newton King Ltd. as agent for a Waiuku buyer at i 72gns. Mr McDonald, continuing his purchases, secured the cow Madiera’s Flora, by Brampton Royal Rexmore— Madiera’s Frolic, born July, 1935. fur 15gns. Another purchase by the Korakonui farmer was the cow Bridge View Sunstar, by Fairlands Golden Lad— Bridge View Sunlight, born Angus., 1935, for 14gns. CRESDALE STUD SALE. “Jersey Week” was concluded on Friday with the Cresdale stud sale. Interest was sustained to the end and though there were no sensational prices, an average of £2B 8s was obtained for the 81 head sold; there were no local buyers at this sale.
