WOMEN’S DIVISION
THE TE AWAMUTU BRANCH. MONTHLY MEETING. The Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union held its monthly meeting* in the Te Awamutu Parish Hall on Thursday last, when Mrs Neill presided over a good attendance, and after repeating the Creed, she extended a hearty welcome to visitors and members. Mention was also made of throe members who had suffered bereavement.
The report of the South Auckland provincial executive was given by Mrs Neill, the president. A report of the committee meeting was also given. A committee was formed of the following:—Mesdames Neill, T. Nicholson, D. H. Cavers and J. S. Pattison, to hold an evening in conjunction with the Te Awamutu branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union.
Mrs Hartley Hall, a member who has just returned home from a trip abroad, gave a very interesting* talk on the agricultural conference at The Hague, and living conditions in Holland.
Miss Marjorie Ross gave a recitation and responded to an incore. Two little girls, Kathleen Hopping and Valerie Whitfield, gave a Chinese dance and they also responded to an encore.
Mrs Neill (president) and Mrs Hinton (housekeeping secretary) were appointed delegates to the conference in Wellington. Mesdames L. Eyre and Godfrey gave particulars in regard to the dressmaking class to be started in Te Awamutu on June 16.
The membership campaign was won by Mrs Ryburn. Competitions: Mrs and Miss Hill, of Te Pahu, judged the aprons, and awarded the first prize to Mrs A. E. Ray. of Pokuru. Mrs Hartley Hall judged the ginger bread, and awarded the first prize to Mrs S. B. Sifleet.
Ngaroto and Paterangi No. 1 supplied the afternoon tea.
