HOSPITAL RATING

SUGGESTED AMENDMENT. ADJUSTMENT NEEDED. At a meeting of Waitomo County Council it was decided, on the motion of Cr J- N. Boddie, to write to the Mayor of Auckland stating that any conference of local bodies which he called to discuss the question of hospital rating would meet with wholehearted support from the Waitomo County Council. Cr Boddie said that numerous other local bodies had urged the necessity for such a conference. Hospital levies could not go on increasing as they were at the present time. Several other councillors expressed themselves as being fully in accord with Cr Boddie’s'views, and were of the opinion that the calling of a representative conference of local bodies was the method best calculated to adjust the present unfair system of taxation. Cr Lee held that steps should be taken to relieve the local bodies of the whole of the responsibility of hospital maintenance.
