THE TAHAROA MYSTERY
NO SIGN OF MISSING INDIAN. DRAGGING THE LAKE. COMBING THE SAND DUNES. On Friday afternoon last a motor lorry laden with an outboard motor boat, grappling irons and camping gear, passed through Te Awamutu en route to Taharoa, where a police camp has been established in connection with the search for the missing Indian storekeeper, Delu Desai, of whom no trace whatsoever has yet been found. During the last few days dragging of the lake has been in progress. The lake varies from 20 feet to 30 feet in depth and the denseness of growth on the bottom renders the dragging operations extremely difficult. The outboard motor proved too light for the job and the police party is now compelled to use oars with which to pull the heavy dragging equipment through the weed-infested lake. The sand dunes are also being searched, special spears being used in this operation.
