Counsel for the accused in the false pretences case at the Justices’ Court this morning, explaining how Boreham had disposed of the money, said he had gone to the races, expecting to “bring home the tote,” and failed! The information was the occasion for a smile or two, and one listener commented audibly: “What an optimist!” “Some people who depend on sounding their horns to carry them safely over an intersection would be better off if they paid more attention to the rules of the road,” said Cr D. Johnson at the meeting of the Piako County Council last Wednesday, when the new by-law eliminating the use of horns except when absolutely necessary was under discussion.
