Selby, winner of the Waipa Handicap at the Te Awamutu amateur sports on March sth, has been disqualified by the parent body for putting in incorrect performances. The Union Bank of Australia has opened a branch in To Awamutu with Mr Wm. Morrison in charge. Alleged irregularities—the absence of a ballot box and an error in the advertised time of meeting—having caused dissatisfaction in certain quarters, the newly-appointed Te Awamutu School Committee • proposes to ask the Board to order another election. Pirongia branch of the Farmers’ Union has elected the following officers:—President, Mr H. O. Death; v’ce-presidemts, Messrs C. Given, H. Johnson, A. Renny and R. Lowe; joint secretaries, Messrs G. Te Awamutu Oddfellows proposed to build a hall for lodge meetings, etc. The Te Awamutu Voluntary Fire Brigade has acquired a chemical fire extinguisher and proposes to buy two more. The N.Z. Sports Protection League, Te Awamutu branch, has elected the following officers: Patron, Mr Wm. Taylor; president, Mr Chas. Bowden; vice-presidents, Messrs A. S. Wallace, J. Graham, A. Young, F. H. F. von Sturmer, J. Edwards, J. B. Teasdale, Dr Gribben, J. Laurie, M. Laurie, F. Edgecumbs; committee, Messrs G. Paul, E. Potts, A. S. Wallace, J. Pollard, A. H. Storey; secretary, Mr J. M. Spear. Mr B. Chester has resigned as secretary of the Te Awamutu Young Men’s Institute, and Mr W. H. Johns succeeds him. Mr Chester is leaving the district. Mr J. F. R. Le Sueur was farewelled at a social in his honour and presentations were made to him on behalf of the Waipa Racing Club, Gun Club, Polo Club, and the sporting section of the townspeople as a whole. Mr Le Sueur, who had actively identified himself with all the club named, took the opportunity to make two presentations himself to his former employees—a gold-mounted cigar holder to Mr Douglas and a silver hunting watch to Mi* Bonnar.
