THE SALVATION ARMY

THE WORLD-WIDE HOME LEAGUE MOVEMENT. In the spring of 1907 Mrs General Bramwell Booth launched a new movement for women in London, and now, after thirty years, thousands gathei every week in the Army’s Home League meetings in different parts of the world. The great outstanding purpose of the Home League is home-building, which includes everything that pertains to home and family, not least the mother’s own character. It is in creating and maintaining the true home atmosphere that women’s skill can best be seen, and making home the truest, purest, sweetest place on earth to those who live in it is the. Home League standard of homebuilding. Membership is in no way confined to Salvationists, but all mothers and any women of 18 years upward may join. A bright hour is spent together usually during one afternoon of the week, and besides the spiritual message, singing, cup of tea, and social intercourse, a subject, concerning home-building is taken. Instruction is given in various arts and crafts, in home nursing, domestic science, the training of children (physically, mentally. socially, and spiritually), and in diet, etc., etc. A member’s subscription is 3d per week in New Zealand, and hundreds of ladies appreciate the helpfulness and friendliness of the Home League. Thrift clubs are a popular feature in some branches, while sewing and other work for needy mothers is undertaken in other centres. On the 11th May Te Awamutu Home League will be opened, and every lady will be welcomed on that day and ‘Wednesday afternoons at the Oddfellows’ Hall.
