TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

AS REPORTED IN THE WAIPA POST, 6th MAY, 1938. At a meeting of the Rangiaohia Road Board the solicitors reported having collected the money for Holden’s Road. The Telegraph Department was to be asked to remove a telegraph pole from a dangerous position on Te Rahu Road. The engineer was instructed to repair Frost’s Road. Regret was expressed at a meeting of the Waipa Racing Club at the resignation of Mr J. Le Sueur as secretary, owing to his departure from the district. Mr J. M. Spear was appointed to the vacancy. Ohaupo Racing Club forwarded £2O for the amalgamated clubs. Messrs F. IL Vile, J. Oliphant, and T. Spear were elected new members. The Racing Conference and the Sports Protection League are to be written to expressing disapproval of their failure to foster nontotalisator racing clubs. It was also decided to make representations to have removed the ban on the publication of dividends. The ratable capital valuations upon which hospital contributions will be based are as follow: Waipa county, £1,477,021; Waikato county £2,572,689; Piako county, £1,231,796; Raglan county, £1,724,017; Waitomo county, £<868,628; Kawhia county, £387,420; Hamilton borough, £803,3.14; Frankton, £327.844; Cambridge, £193,355: Te Kuiti, £237,444; and Te Awamutu. £116,461.
