ST. JOHN’S CHURCH

WOMEN’S AUXILIARY. MIONTHLY MEETING HELD. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Auxiliary of St. John’s Church was held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday evening last, the president, Mrs C. G. Downes, occupying the elixir. There was a representative attendance of members. Reference was made by the president to the bereavement sustained by Mrs H. A. Swarbrick in the recent death of her mother, Mi’s Seddon, of Hamilton—a lady who had consistently worked for worthy endeavours, and who had shown her practical interest in the world of the Women’s Auxiliary. Mrs Downes also referred to the death a few days ago of little DorothyPaul, a grand-daughter of an esteemed member, Mrs J. Irwin, and votes of sympathy with Mrs Swarbrick and Mrs Irwin were recorded. Congratulatory reference was made to the decision of the Vestry of St. John’s to proceed with the repainting of the Parish Hall. Arrangements were advanced for the provision of an altar cloth for the church, and Mrs Naylor undertook to apply the finishing touches. The vicar asked members of the Auxiliary to support the representations that were being made with a view to ensuring a continuance of the daily voluntary religious exercises in State schools.
