PLUNKET SOCIETY

TE AWAMUTU BRANCH. MONTHLY MEETING. The committee of the Te Awamutu Plunket Society held their monthly meeting in the Borough Council Chambers on Monday afternoon. The president, Mrs A. H. Storey, was in the chair, and the following members were present: Mesdames R. Connal, W. Locke, J. Oliphant, S. Broadbent, J. Self, C. W. Rickit and N. Neilsen (secretary). Apologies were received from Mesdames Coverdale, O’Brien and Swarbrick. A vote of sympathy was passed to Mrs Swarbrick in the loss of her mother, members standing in silence. Nurse’s report showed 48 new cases; visits to homes 28; visits to rooms (adults) 293, (babies) 259, (older children) 60; telephone calls 84. Box donations amounted to £3. The following letter was received from Nurse McLeod:—“Please convey to the mothers of Te Awamutu my very sincere thanks for their token of esteem and at the same time thank them for their co-operation while doing my work with them. All the mothers have been uncanny, they have, given to me that for which I have always wished, a gold wristlet watch. With improved knowledge and experience, I hope on my return to renew my work in Te Awamutu.” Advice was received from Dunedin that a Dominionwide appeal for increased membership of all branches would be launched by Her Excellency, Lady Galway, by means of a short broadcast from station IYA, Auckland, on the evening, of Saturday, 7th May, members being asked to interest themselves in the appeal. THE OHAUPO BRANCH. ANNUAL MEETING HELD. The annual meeting of the Ohaupo branch of the Plunket Society was held on Friday last in the Plunket Rooms, Ohaupo, and the attendance was good. Before commencing thei meeting a minute’s silence was observed as a mark of respect to the late Mrs Karl. A comprehensive report of the year’s activities was given by the secretary, Mrs E. Wiley. A satisfactory position was also shown in the balance sheet, the results of last year’s ball being most beneficial. Mirs E. Wiley, who has been secretary and treasurer for eight years, then tendered her resignation. With much regret it was accepted. After selecting the officers for the year the arrangements were discussed for the Thirteenth Annual Plunket Ball which is to be held on Wednesday, June 15th. The following officers were elected: Patron: Mr S. Reid; president: Mrs F. Ryburn; vice-preisidents: Mesdames G. Tarr, G. Hogan and E. Sanson; committee: Mesdames V. Karl, A. S. Karl, F. Haldane, Beaglehole, Ralph, McKey, C. K. Edwards, T. Dynes, Fletcher and Wiley.

A delightful afternoon tea brought the meeting to a close.
