RIFLE SHOOTING

THE OTOROHANGA RIFLE CLUB. CHAMPIONSHIP CONTEST. (Our Resident Representative.) The Club championship series of rifle shooting contests on the range of the Otorohanga Defence Rifle Club were concluded with a contest of ten. shots at the 500yds range. L. Palmer won fol’ the fourth year in succession. The position of runner-up was keenly contested between J. H. O’Connor, Fred E. Hyde and B. Palmer, the two former scoring 684 each to the 680 registered by Palmer. In the final Hyde put on 46 and secured the position of runner-up. In the Handicap Aggregate Shoot, in conjunction with the championship, O’Connor, who shot very consistently won with a total score of 774 for the season. Fred Hyde was second with 769 and B. Palmer third with 763. The shoot for the President’s Trophy resulted in a win for F. Hyde with 93, who just defeated H. O’Connor and H. Murphy by one point. The final scores in the championship were: L. Palmer 782, Fred Hyde 730. J. H. O’Connor 725 and B. Palmer 722. The contests have produced some very promising- young marksmen.
