The death occurred at the pa, Ngaruawahia, on Friday, of Tumati Mahuta Wherowhero, aged 48 years second son of the third Maori king and eldest uncle of the present paramount chief of the Waikato tribe, Koroki Mahuta Te Wherowhero. Deceased was aged 48 years. The largest tangi since the death of the late Maori king is in progress at the pa- On Saturday afternoon the Hon. F. Langstone. Minister of Lands and acting Minister of Native Affairs, and his party visited Ngaruawahia to pay tribute to the deceased on behalf of the Government. The Governor-General, Viscount Galway, and the Prime Minister, the Right Hon. M. J. Savage, have been invited to attend the obsequies. This week Maoris from surrounding districts principally from the Kawhia and King Country areas, will travel to Ngaruawahia, and when the tangi concludes on Sunday the body of the late Tumati Mahuta will be interred in the family burial area on Taupiri Mountain.
