RETURNED SOLDIERS

THE OTOROHANGA BRANCH. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Otorohanga Returned Soldiers’ Association was held in the Town Hall annexe on Wednesday last. The attendance of 50 was a bigger muster than has attended for many years. Mr A. J. McCready, who has acted as chairman during Major Westmacott’s absence in England, presided over the first part of the meeting. His report described the work of the Association and showed marked progress in its activities during the year. The balance sheet showed the total funds at 31st March to bo £55 5s lOd. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Chairman, Major H. H. S. Westmacott, 0.8. E.; vice-chairman, A. J. McCready; executive committee, A. C. Thompson, A. J. W. Annan, K. F. Maynard, A. Ormsby, P. A. Rasmussen and R. Munro; treasurer and secretary; W. J. C. Patterson; delegate to Dominion conference, Major Westmacott; auditor, Mr A. B. R. Mossman; hon. surgeon, Dr R. C. Bennington. Mr C. Wilson was elected an honorary member. After a letter from the Kerikeri Association was read, a resolution was carried to the effect that returned men should be- eligible under any Government superannuation scheme at the age of 50. It was decided to send a letter of thanks to those who had assisted at the Anzac Day parade and also to tho young ladies who had acted as vendors on Poppy Day. Towards the end of the meeting Major Westmacott, who had already congratulated the executive on its good work during the year, gave a most interesting address on the activities of the British Legion and on various functions he had attended in England. He also spoke on the doings of returned men in South Africa and Australia, his address being warmly applauded.
