Mrs A. M. Pearson, of Hamilton, has returned home after visiting Mrs R. Pearson, of Raikes Avenue. Mrs R. Pearson, of Raikes Avenue, left on Saturday on a visit to Cambridge, Hamilton and Ngaruawahia. Mr B. H. Budden, of Pokuru, left by the Limited last evening for Palmerston North, from where he will travel to the south of Dunedin by air. Mr and Mrs Percy Hanna, of Auckland, in the course of their honeymoon tour, are at present visiting Mr Hanna’s father, Mr Jack Hanna, of Raikes Avenue. The Chief Justice,, the Hon. Sit Michael Myers, is to arrive in Hamilton to-day, and will preside at the Supreme Court sessions opening there w-morrow-Canon W. W. Averill, of All Saints’ Church, Ponsonby, is at present on a visit to Te Awamutu and is the guest, of the Rev. Martin and Mrs Sullivan at the Vicarage. Mrs Alan Law, of Alexandra Street, and Sister E. Davey, of Wallace Terrace, returned to Te Awamutu by car on Friday evening after a fortnight’s visit to Hawke’s Bay. At Friday’s meeting of the Te Awamutu Power Board, Mr H. G. Knight was appointed additional inspector. Mr Knight was formerly one of the faultmen in the employ of the Board. Mr E. V. Willers, who is to become accountant at the local branch of the Union Bank, arrived from Dunedin yesterday, being accompanied by Mrs Willers. They have taken up their residence in College Street. It was notified in last week’s Gazette that the Rev. J. C. Young of Te Awamutu, the Rev. R. S. C. Fussell, of Kawhia, and the Rev. Tom and Mrs Flower, of Raglan, had been appointed Child Welfare officers. Mr B. S. Marshall, of Hamilton, was congratulated by the Waikato RugbyReferees’ Association at its meeting at Hamilton on Friday evening upon his election as president of the New Zealand Rugby Referees’ Association. He is the first Waikato member to fill that office. The death has occurred of Mr Chas. W'm. Workman, a well-known farmer of Roto-o-Rangi district, at the age of 60 years. He came to Waikato from Gloucestershire about 25 years ago, and was engaged in farming in various parts of the district, finally settling at Roto-o-Rangi five years ago. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and two daughters. Private advice received in Te Awamutu records the death at Hawera of Mr Alan Good, who was well known in his young days as a Rugby player, having represented Taranaki from 1887 to 1897. He had also represented New Zealand. He was prominently connected with many public bodies in South Taranaki. Latest mail news from England brings the information that Mr Graham Magill, of Hamilton (and well known as a concert entertainer throughout the Waikato), who went Home two years ago to join the Royal Air Force, has recently been stationed in Ireland with one of the heavy bomber squadrons, and is now under transfer with his squadron to Egypt, .with headquarters at Cairo.

Messrs Mel. Innes-Jones, R. G. Andrew, N. E. Rossiter and G. Hastie (Te Awamutu), R. A. Anderson and N. S. Lunn (Pukeatua), T. Thwaite and W. Forsyth (Ohaupo), T. H. Moisley (Paterangi), J. W. Ferguson (Puahue), D. H. Cavers (Waikeria), and G. Lorimer (Te Rore), who represented the Te Awamutu district in the Returned Soldiers’ contingent which participated in the great Anzac parade at Sydney, arrived in Wellington to-day and will reach Te Awamutu by special train to-morrow morning.

Sincere and widespread sympathy will be accorded to Mr and Mrs E. Paul, of Spreydon, Christchurch, in their bereavement at the death of their three months old baby daughter, Dorothy Ruth, which occurred at the Waikato Hospital on Sunday morning. Mrs Paul (formerly Miss Elsie Irwin, of Te Awamutu) had been visiting her parents here with her two children, and the baby developed an internal malady, from which she failed to recover despite the best of medical and nursing attention. The funeral, which is to be of a private nature, takes place to-day.

Mr C. R. Petrie, M.P., the present Mayor of Otahuhu, has been re-elect-ed unopposed. There will be Mayoral elections on 11th May in Cambridge and Matamata. Three nominations have been received for Cambridge, the candidates being Messrs C. W. Boyce, E. James, and T. F. Fi ch ar ds. The present Mayor, Mr C. H. Priestly, is not seeking re-election. The Mayoralty in Matamata will be contested by Mr W. A. Gordon present holder of the office, and Mr H. E. Schofield. At Ngaruawahia the Mayoralty will be contested between Messrs R- Eyre (the present occupant of the position) and R. R. Knight.

The Hon. W. Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, was a passenger on the limited express train this morning to Auckland, where he will board the R.M.S. Aorangi en route to Sydney to attend a meeting of the Australian Agricultural Council, starting at Canberra on 10th May. Before returning to New Zealand Mr Martin intends to visit some of the agricultural districts of New South Wales He expects to arrive back in Wellington by the Awatea on 26th May. During Mr Martin’s absence from New Zealand, Mr C- A. Barrell M.P. for Hamilton, will attend to the interests of the Minister’s constituents in Raglan. Mrs and Miss Martin are accompanying the Minister on his tour.

While he was visiting Auckland during the week-end, Mr. W. Mackenzie, of College Street, had the misfortune to have his new motor car stolen. It appears that he parked his vehicle outside a restaurant into which he went for a meal, and on his return it had disappeared. Mr Mackenzie, besides losing his car, is a heavy loser, as over £5O worth of personal and professional effects were in the car. The police are inquiring into the matter.
