AT THE REGENT. COMMENCING TO-NIGHT. “CAPTAIN JANUARY.” The heart-warming story of a dimpled tot and a sweet old man—both of whom had found “the right somebody to love”—is delightfully told in the new Shirley Temple picture, “Captain January,” coming to-night to th £ Regent Theatre. In a delightful mixture, dance and comedy, the new picture follows the adventures of Shirley and Guy Kibbee, the grizzled old lighthouse keeper, who had rescued her from the sea, and who was jealously determined to keep her for himself Aided by another old salt, Slim Summerville, Kibbee succeeds for a time in sheltering Shirley from the vixenish truant officer. Then Shirley is taken away and all is consternation. but not for long. Friends turn up to free her from Miss Haden’s grip, and the little lady and the old sailer of the lighthouse are happily rejoined. Buddy Ebsen, of Follies fame, is Shirley’s dancing partner in the new picture and is also romantically teamed with lovely June Lang. David Butler directed the picture. AT THE EMPIRE. AGAIN TO-NIGHT AND ON THURSDAY. “TWO’S COMPANY.” A new and most interesting comedy partnership is introduced to the screen in “Two’s Company,” at the Empire Theatre. Nad Sparks, one of Hollywood’s leading comedians, is co-star-red with that inimitable Cockney humourist, Gordon Harker, and the result is one cf the funniest comedies turned out of Elstree for a long, long time. The story opens in New York. B. G. Madison, a wealthy business man, is reluctantly persuaded by his wife and daughter, and his lawyer, A) (Ned Sparks), to take a health trip to England. On board the liner they meet Muggridge (Gordon Harker) valiet to the Earl of Warke. Muggridge is travelling back to England in charge of his master’s champion deg. Of course Americans mistake Muddridge for the Earl Madison’s daughter. Julia (Mary Brian), makes a hit with the Earl’s son, Jerry (Patrick Knowles), and fun begins when thh Earl (an ardent butterfly collector) gets into holts with the fiery Madison. Muggridge and the lawyer, Al, take up the cudgels, and it isn’t until the lovers, Jerry and Julia, are in need of support, that the two get together and smooth matters out to an uproarious climax.
