STREET CROSSINGS
PROVISIONS FOR PEDESTRIANS. At the Borough Council meeting on Monday evening the Mayor (Mr Geo. Spinley), when referring to road safet-- -ecautions, said regulation crossings in busy streets were provided for. In Te Awamutu the street markings were not actually correct. When correct ones were marked, all motor traffic would have to slow up at each crossing. Cr Gifford asked if the pedestrian crossings should be placed at or near street intersections. Cr Wallace said there was one 'n Queen Street, Auckland, at John Court’s Corner. If that were practicable rurely any part of Te Awamutu’s business area could be defined. Cr Rainey thought the Works Committee should be asked to report. The Mayor: Why shove all the work on the Works Committee? Cr Rainfey: That is surely their job. Cr Maxwell thought the works foreman was competent to select the best places. Cr Rainev said he was agreeable to that course, and the suggestion was agreed to.
