WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
HANGATIKI MAORI BRANCH. Mrs Bidwell presided over the meeting of the Hangatiki Maori branch of the Women’s Institute on the 3rd Inst., when there was a good attendance and four new members were enrolled. The president congratulated Mrs W. Eketone on being the mother of the first Maori Institute baby. The origin of Maori place names, and how they originated, was an interesting and instructive result of the replies to the roll call, "A Maori place name and how it originated.” - Poi making was demonstrated by Mrs W. Eketone. A. remarkable feature of the gathering was the appearance at it of four generations of the Nikora family. They were Mrs Nikora sen., her daughter, Mrs Rangi, and her granddaughter, Mrs Hotu, with a young child in arms. There were also two families with four sisters from each, present. Mesdames J. Hetet and Kukutai were the hostesses for the afternoon.
