Mr and Mrs A. T. Morton have returned to their Te Kuiti home after an extensive tour of Australia, much of which was enjoyed from the air.

Miss H. E. Anderson, of Lower Hutt, who has been spending a holiday with friends near Te Awamutu. left yesterday for Auckland.

Mr A. B. Melrose, of Tauranga, is spending a holiday in Te Awamutu as the guest of his nephew, Mr G. B. Melrose, Pakura Street.

Quite a number of local Rugby enthusiasts have made arrangepients to be in Wellington on Saturday to witness the first test match, New Zealand v. South Africa.

Mr and Mrs C. M. Whitehouse, of Te Awamutu, who have been spending their honeymoon in Fiji, returned by the steamer Matua which reached Auckland on Tuesday.

Mrs J. Henderson and the Misses Henderson (2), formerly of “Hillcrest,” Hamilton, but now of Te Kawa, are visiting Otorohanga, where they are the guests of Mrs Henderson’s sister, Mrs H. M. Quin.

When engaged on surveying work at Ngahinapouri on Monday, Mr Ormend Wilson, aged 27, of Hamilton, slipped and fell, receiving rather severe head injuries. He was admit ted to the Waikato Hospital and last night his condition was reported to be fairly serious.

Miss Jean Osmond, recently of the nursing staff of the Auckland and Waihi Hospitals, has been spending her furlough with her parents, at Otorchanga. She now assumes the position of relieving nursing sister at King George’s Hospital, Rotorua, and has left to take un her new duties.

Mr H. J. Webber, manager of the model pig farm at Paterangi Road of the Ne.w Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., has been appointed to judge the entries in the pig section at the Poverty Bay A. and P. Association’s annual show at Gisborne on 25th and 26th October.

Mr and Mrs F. D. Wood, of Auckland, who have been visiting Te Awamutu as the guests of' Mrs W. Kirkham, Puniu Road, return home to-day. Mr Wood was, about two decades ago, headmaster of Te Awamutu School, and during his present visit he has been renewing many old friendships and -meeting some of his former pupils.

A leading figure in the social life of Auckland and an energetic worker for good causes has 1 been removed by th e sudden death on Monday night of Lady Sinclair-Lockhart, widow of the late Sir Robert Sinclair-Lockhart, Bart. Lady Sinclair-Lockhart was a daughter of an old Auckland resident, Captain Edward H. Power, who fought with distinction in the Maori War, and a grand-daughter of Colonel Nation, formerly of the East India Company’s service, who settled in Auckland not long after the Indian Mutiny.
