WAITOMO COUNTY
REVALUATION PROCEEDING. After long consideration the Waitomo County Council has commenced the revaluation of the county—a work calculated to occupy the valuers for the next six months. Mr C. A. Haynes, of the Valuation Department, is in charge of the work, and he will have the assistance of three other valuators. During the years of depression there were numerous reductions made by means of individual valuations throughout the county, consequently the county took advantage of the special legislation of 1934 to prevent inequality in the incidence of rates that had been struck on the unimproved vaues of the lands within the confines of the county. Since 1934 the rates have been struck on 75 per cent of the unimproved value, except that in cases where a revaluation has been made the rate is struck on the new figures, or on 75 per cent of the old valuations, whichever is the lesser. The present revaluation, has been commenced in the Awakino Riding of the County.
