HOCKEY CLUB DANCE. (Own Correspondent.) The Pirongia Ladies’ Hockey Club promoted a most successful dance in the Pirongia Memorial Hall last Saturday evening. There was a very large attendance, including visitors from all the neighbouring districts. The Savoy Dance Band provided excellent music, and Mr J. Macky ably carried out the duties of M.C. Monte Carlo competitions were won by Miss G. Bowden and partner and Miss R. Brown and partner. A very tasty home-made supper was served by the local hockey girls. The committee in charge of the arrangements for the function were Mesdames W. H. Bell and M. Hawley, the Misses R. Bell (secretary), p. Sifleet, G. Bell, I. Sifleet, D. Beet, S. Bell, F. Mansfield and T. Butterworth. The third grade Rugby match played at Pirongia last Saturday was between Te Awamutu and Pirongia teams, and it provided quite an exciting contest. The visitors proved too strong in all departments and won by a fair margin of points. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute, held on Tuesday afternoon, was fairly well .attended, and Mrs G. Lorimer (president) occupied the chair. After the customary roll call a “pioneer tale" caused much interest and amusement. Competitions were won by Mrs Logan and Mrs L. Marx. The hostesses for the afternoon, Mesdames L. Godfrey and J. Livingstone, served a very tasty -afternoon tea.
