WORK OF THE MONTH

IN WAI.PA COUNTY. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The following report of work done since last meeting was presented by the engineer, Mr J. W. Civil, at Monday's meeting of the Waipa County Council Ngaroto-Station Road: 62. cubicyards of Otoronanga gravel and 104 cubic yards of gravel and sand from the railway pit, have beer, carted ami spread. Te Awamutu-Cambridge main highway. 54 A cubic yards of Te Kawa metal have been supplied, carted and spread; 52 cubic yards of gravel have been carted from Grey’s pit, 24 cubic yards on to Long’s Road and the balance on to Storey’s Road; 34 cubic yards of metal from Puahue quarry have been carted and used for repairs on the Hairini-Puahue Road. The usual grading and surface work have been carried out throughout the riding. ORAKAU RIDING. Kihikihi-Arapuni main highway: 266 cubic yards of Puniu river gravel have been scooped and carted from Parone Tunoho's on to above main highway; also 92 cubic yards of Puniu river gravel have been carted from Parone’s and dumped on the side of the Owalraka Valley Road for future repairs. Kihikihi Flat Road: Repairs have been carried out to this road with 16 cubic yards of Te Kawa metal. Mangare Road: 76 cubic yards of gravel have been carted from Rea’s pit and spread. Payne’s Road: 29 cubic yards of Te Kawa metal and 12 cubic yards of gravel sand have been carted and spread. Grading and general surface work have been carried out throughout the riding. MANGAPIKO RIDING, Frankton-Pirongia main highway: 70 cubic yards of Hodgson’s gravel from the Te Rore dump, 26 yards of metal chips from the Pirongia dump, 58 cubic yards of sand from Perrin’s pit, and 14 cubic yards of sand from Steel’s pit have been carted and used

for strengthening and resurfacing the road.

Hawthorne’s Road: 98 cubic yards of sand from Steel’s pit and 108 cubic yards from Bowman’s pit have been carted and portions of this road resurfaced. One hundred and fourteen yards of sand have been carted from Steel’s pit on to the following roads: 36 cubic yards on to Ross Street, 36 Bellot, 10 on to Thompson’s, 8 on to PaterangiPirongia, and 24 cubic yards on to Te Awamutu-Pirongia main highway; 16 cubic yards of gravel sand have been carted from the railway pit on to Te Awamutu-Meadway’s main road. Grading and general surface work have been carried out throughout the riding. KAKEPUKU RIDING. Te Mawhai-Kakepuku Road: 44 cubic yards of Otorohanga gravel have been supplied, carted and spread; also 60 cubic yards of Otorohanga gravel have been carted on to the Kakepuku Mountain Road and spread. Grading and general surface work have also been carried out. Kakepuku Drainage Area: The cleaning of drains has been completed. GENERAL. Regarding Martin and Mason’s drain: It is with pleasure I have to report that both gentlemen have cleaned and deepened the drain running through their properties, also cleared all growth in the vicinity of the drain. Re drains "between Vardon and Sandwich’s Roads: I interviewed Mr Roberts and explained that the Council considered the drains were not a County matter, but if the ratepayers interested could arrange to carry out the work the Council would provide them with the levels by which to work.
