SUDDEN RISE IN PRICES. HIGHEST POINT FOR THE YEAR. A sudden rise in the butter market in London to 116 s per cwt., which is the highest point since August, 1936, has again surprised the most competent observers. Production figures, for 11 months of the New Zealand seasen show a rise of 8 per cent, and New Zealand butter is still plentiful in London. At July 10 New Zealand stored stocks in the United Kingdom totalled 5377 tons, against 4221 tons in the previous year, while Australian stored stock" were 6625 tons, compared with 3596 tons in the previous year. Total stocks of all butters according to the Imperial Economic Committee’s estimate, were 949,813 boxes, against 885,472 boxes a year previously. Values during the next few months promise to be firmer than those of the corresponding period of recent years.
