FRANKTON STOCK SALE. A feature of the weekly Frankton stock sale yesterday was the extra large supply of ox beef which sold under a good demand at unaltered rates. Other sections were well supplied but there was another shortage of prime fat pigs. Despite the increased supply, bidding was brisk throughout the sale of ox beef and although in some cases values tended to be a shade lower, the market on the whole was on a par with that of last week. Good medium weight sorts were in request from £l2 5s to £l3 while a good demand for lighter weight cattle resulted in quotations of £lO 10s to £ll 15s. The demand for cows and heifers over the early sales was a little disappointing and early sale rates were slightly below those ruling last Tuesday. A steady market was experiene. ed for a lighter entry of cows, while boners again provided a keen request. Fat sheep values moved in vendors’ favour, an improved market being experienced for all classes. Best wethers made from 35s to 40s as against 34s 6d to 37s 6d at the previous sale. Prime ewes were similarly in keen demand and best pens were bringing from Is 6d to 2s more per head. A keen trade was also experienced for fat jambs at slightly improved rates. The short entry of fat pigs changed hands ‘readily at prices which were much on a par with late rates, Quotations: — Prime medium, steers, £l2 5s to £l3; lighter prime, £lO 10s to £ll ss; small, £8 to £9 10s; prime cows and heifers £7 to £7 18s; fat £4 19s to £6 15s.
