SOCIAL FUNCTIONS

EVENING FOR TOWN QUEEN. Mrs A. J. McGovern held a very enjoyable evening last week at her home in Frontier Road for her daughter, the Town Queen in the Catholic Convent Carnival. Iceland poppies and spring flowers were used to decorate the rooms, and during the evening games and competitions were much enjoyed. Mrs McGovern received her guests wearing a black satin frock with a black and white sari, and white orchid shoulder spray. Miss Peggy McGovern wore a black and gold cocktail suit. Among those present were Mcsdames C. Blundell, J. O’Sullivan, W. Jeffery, L. Chamberlain, J. Oliphant, M. Friedlander, O. O’Brien, O. Edmonds, J. Wallace, D. Storey, J. B. Muir, D. Kay, M. Otway end Miss Norman (Wellington). DANCE FOR COUNTRY QUEEN. A dance social was held last Friday evening at the Waikeria Social Hall to swell the funds for the Country candidate, Miss C. Dunlop. The ball had been decorated with blue and white streamers and palms artistically arranged, blue and white paper flowers decorating the supper room. Excellent music was provided for the many dancers. Euchre was also played, the prize being won by Mrs J. O’Sullivan. Mrs D. Dunlop received her guests wearing a gown of black georgette, the guest of honour wearing floral taffeta.
