Mr P. Scriven, of Te Rore, is spending a month’s holiday at Mt. Cook.. Mr E. Menary, of Pakura Street,- is enjoying a week’s deep-sea fishing at Russell. Miss R. Moor, of Auckland, is spending a holiday with her sister, Mrs W. J. Hebden, Puniu Road. Mrs C. W. Rickit, and Miss Avis Rickit, of Alexandra Street, have been ■pending a few days in Auckland. Miss Helen Schmidt, who has been spending her holidays at her home in Devonport has returned to Te Mawhai. Mrs C. Hodder, Green Lane (Auckland), is visiting Otorohanga, where she is the guest of Mr and Mrs W. A. Henderson. Miss Gladys Irwin, who has been spending an extended holiday in England, and arrived in Auckland last week, is expected to reach Te Awamutu to-night. Dr Gilbert ML Tothill, superintendent of Tokanui Hospital, has been appointed by the Waipa County Council to succeed the late Dr H. M Prins, as a trustee of the Tokanui Cemetery. Constable T. Collins, for many years past stationed at Te Kuiti, has received notice of his transfer to St. Bathans, Central Otago. Constable Fleming, of Wanganui, will succeed Constable Collins at Te Kuiti. The engagement is announced between Noeline Eunice, elder daughter of Mir and Mrs R. T. Davies, of Richmond Downs, Oparau, and Charles Francis, youngest son of Mr and Mrs Hi Barrett, Mount Albert, late of Koroma tua. The Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs is visiting Hamilton to-day to confer with representatives of the Waikato, Waipa and Raglan County Councils regarding the proposals of the Government for local body amalgamation. His many friends, especially local Boy Scouts, will be pleased to learn that Mr Leo Bulford has returned home after four or five weeks in hospital in Wellington, where he underwent an operation that appears to have been completely successful. Messrs W. A. Lee (chairman) and R. H. Browne represented the Wai temo County Council at the No. 6 Highways District Council meeting at Taumarunui. The Otorohanga County Council was represented by Messrs W. Bluck (chairman) and F. Potts.

The engagement is announced between Gwynn Eleanor Rothery, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Percy Rothery, Clonbern Road, Remuera, and Charles Mostyn Duncan (Te Awamutu), second son of Mrs and the late Mr J. A. Duncan, Fow Street, Hamilton.

A transfer of interest locally is announced by the Mental Hospitals Department. Dr Assad Corban, who ha: been junior medical officer at Tokanui Hospital for the past eight years or so. has received word of his transfer to Hokitika Hospital, and tve understand he leaves shortly for his new appointment.

The death occurred early on Monday evening of Mr Thomas Kinnear Crammond, a retired sea captain, at the age of 74 years. Deceased, who had not been in good health for some considerable time, was found dead by a caller at his home. No inquest was considered necessary, his medical man giving a certificate as to the cause of death. Mr Crammond—known tc many residents as “Old Tom” —was born at Dundee, Scotland, and spent many years at sea, before obtaining employment at Matamata, from where he came to this district. For some time he managed a property at Pokuru, but for nearly twenty years, lie had lived in Te Awamutu, engaging in various occupations, chiefly painting. He leaves no relatives in New Zealand.
