BADMINTON

TE AWAMUTU v. MATIERE. Last Saturday a team of badminton players from Matiere (Central King Country) visited Te Awamutu for an inter-club contest with the local players, and a very enjoyable time eventuated. The visitors showed a good knowledge of the game, and won eleven of the sixteen games. Results, with Te Awamutu players named first are:— Men’s singles.—R. Goodall 15 v. P. Crawford 10; E. Melville 12 v. G. McDonald 15; F. I. Miller 15 v. A. Raitt 7; A. Ross 15 v. B. Hall 9. Ladies’ Singles.—Miss E. Melville 3 v. Mrs Hall 11, Mrs Melville 0 v. Miss Alanson 11; Miss E. Clarke 8 v. Miss Bowman 11; Miss D. Pearte 2 v. Mrs Rutherford 11. Ladies’ Doubles.—Miss Melville and Mrs Melville 4 v. Mrs Hall and Miss Alanson 15; Misses Clarke and Pearte 0 v. Miss Bowman and Mrs Rutherford 15. Men’s Doubles.—Goodall and Miller 21 v. Crawford and McDonald 19, Melville and Ross 21 v. Raitt and Hall 8. Combined,—Melville and Miss Melville 17 v. Crawford and Miss Alanson 21, Goodall and Mrs Melville 8 v. McDonald and Mrs Hall 21, Miller and Miss Clarke 18 v. Raitt and Miss Bowman 21, Ross and Miss Pearte 11 v. Hall and Mrs Rutherford 21. The visitors were entertained to dinner by the local players, and altogether the visit proved most enjoyable. The Te Awamutu players were accorded a hearty invitation to return the visit, and we understand arrangements in that connection are in train.
