DEBATES OVER THE AIR
GOVERNMENT FRAMING DEFINITE POLICY. “The Government is going into the whole question of allowing controversial debates over the air,” said the acting Minister in Charge of Broadcasting, the Hon. F. Jones, when invited in Wellington to comment on remarks made by Mr F. W. Doidge on the refusal of the broadcasting authorities to allow him to debate Socialism with Mr W. J. Lyon, M.P., from IYA. Mr' Jones said, it should be possible to make a statement on the question shortly. What lines the Government would follow and how far it would go he could not indicate at the moment, but every phase of the question was being thoroughly looked into. The Minister added that the Government was well aware of the difficulties involved in framing a definite policy, and said that nothing would be done until after a most complete examination of the position.
