SOCIAL FUNCTIONS

TENNIS CLUB DANCE. The Te Awamutu Tennis Club’s dance at the Town Hall last evening was fairly well attended, and everything possible had been done to ensure the enjoyment cf patrons. Mrs Leekie’s Orchestra dispensed tip-top music, and this was supplemented with extras by Mr A. L. Gilmore. Mr H. Renton carried out the duties £>f master of ceremonies. Two Monte Carlo competitions were conducted, the first being won by Miss Cook and partner, and the second by Miss L. Bloxham and partner. Opportunity was taken, during an interval, for the club president, Mr V. A. de Coek, to refer to the success of the Club during the past season, and the prospects for the future. Then he asked Mrs A. Bowler to present the trophies won during the playing season, as 'follows: —Ladies’ doubles, Mrs Bowler and Miss E. Maxwell; men’s doubles, Messrs G. Wjood and H. Holmes; ladies’ singles, Mrs Bowlei - ; men’s singles, Mr G. Wood; combined, Miss R. Bell and Mr G. Wood; men’s B championship, Mr D. Steer; ladies’ B championship, Miss N. Miller; junior boys, E. Griffin; Hilmer Cup (combined doubles), Miss M. Cruickshank and Mr R. L. Armstrong; Gilmore Trophies (ladies’ doubles), Misses E. Maxwell and M. Cruickshank; Mrs S. Clark’s Trophies (men’s doubles), Messrs R. Armstrong and R. Goodall. The assemblage heartily applauded the recipients. VISITING ODDFELLOWS. The local Oddfellows’ Lodge was visited by three car-loads of Matamata Oddfellows at the fortnightly meeting last Monday evening. After ordinary business had been completed the members and visitors adjourned for a social hour or two, dancing being indulged in to music supplied by Mrs E. Holmes. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Duff and partner. A tasty supper was served by the social committee, and a very jolly evening terminated with the singing of “ Auld Lang Syne.”
